Skills Canada - Ontario 2010

Well I'm back from my adventure in Waterloo and things are finally winding down. I had an absolutely wonderful time photographing the Skills Canada events, the Ontario Technological Skills Competition and Canadian Skills Competition. It was a week full of photographing and editing and was well worth the work. I love the competition, everything about it.

I competed in 2009 and came away with my gold medal for placing first and I have been following the competition since. It was wonderful getting to see the competitors in their elements. Congratulations to all the competitors this year in 2010, as well as the winners of the Worlds Skills Competition! The competition is a great way to recognize the skilled trades which often don't get the attention they deserve!

It was a very rewarding experience and I got to meet some of the wonderful staff that make the events happen. I am grateful for the experience and I am so thrilled with the work that I came away with.

Thank you everyone at the Skills Competition for all the work you do, and for letting me be a part of it!

There are two ways to win!

The first way to win is random, each persons ballots will be placed in a hat and one will be drawn. You must comment on the associated Facebook note in order to be entered into the giveaway.

The second way is not completely random, whoever has the most ballots at the end of the contest wins! Please read below to see how you can get more ballots.

How can I increase my chances of winning?

1. Buy a print! You could win your print for free if you are the winner, too. You will receive 10 extra ballots per purchase.

2. Follow me on Twitter to increase your ballots by 5. http://www.twitter.com/jenniferstuber

Big Things In May - Skills Ontario

Hello everyone!

Let me tell you a quick story. Many of you may remember last year around this time, I entered a photography competition. This photography competition was called 'Skills Ontario' (http://skillsontario.com/), which is a province wide competition in all things technological. My teachers asked if I was interested and I nervously agreed to participate. To make a long story short (I won't bore you with the details) I ended up placing first in the competition, to my surprise!

Fast forward to recently. I had been editing photos and realized I never uploaded my Skills Ontario photos to my Flickr account, which is where I upload all my work. One afternoon I received an email from a Skill Canada - Ontario representative who told me he had spotted my work and wanted to hire me as the photographer for the competition this year! I love the competition itself, it was wonderful being able to photograph all the student participants.

This is very big news for me and I am very excited to be photographing the competition this year, which takes place on May 17th, 18th, 21st, and 22nd. I will be sure to keep you all updated (if you're interested) on how things go and I will be uploading my photos to my Flickr website (http://www.flickr.com/jenniferstuber/).

Until then, thank you all for your support!

Jennifer Stuber

Car Free Sunday

Car Free Sunday was last Sunday and I loved it! I was not expecting it to be such a success, it had a huge turnout. I arrived and walked down Dundas street. The London Music Associations put on some great musical acts right in front of Mascots, who served a lovely barbecue. I had myself a delicious veggie burger while I listened to the bands play. I walked the entire length of the closed street and found that there was a lack of booths and things to look at, but it is only the first year after all. The yoga and dance demonstrations were very interesting. My favourite part was getting to watch a group of breakdancers, they were very talented and made for great subjects. All in all, a great time out. I will definitely be attending next year!

Here are some photos I took at the event, though it is only a small fraction! I still have lots more to edit, so look out for those.

Corporate Headshot for Pat

Over the weekend I put together a business card for a wonderful lady, Pat. We were outside in the cold for a little bit, it was so freezing and the wind was blowing, but I think the whole thing turned out wonderful. I'm getting them printed for her over the next week, can't wait to see it printed!

If you are in the London area and are looking for an Arbonne consultant, definitely look her up. She's fantastic.

Updates

Hello everyone!

No wins at the Western Fair unfortunately but I received an overwhelming amount of support ffrom my friends, family and fans. Thank you so much to everyone who came out to see my work! There is always next year.

Right now I am trying to get my work out there, I have applied to show my work at a local coffee pub so we'll see if I'm accepted in.

For those interested I will be returning to the Western Fair Farmer's Market very soon, keep reading this blog, my twitter, or my Facebook fan page for updates on that.

That's all for now!
